Egypt is an important horticultural exporter, recently becoming the biggest orange exporter globally in volume, but also exporting significant amounts of grapes, onions, potatoes and other fruits and vegetables. Importers have indicated urgent need for cold storage in Egypt.
Egypt is aiming to boost its intermodal transport through development of dry ports connected via rail to its major ports, as well as development of a high-speed rail connection. Part of project could be providing smaller farmers access to export chains and open-access cold chain infrastructure.
