Kenya is one of Africa's largest horticultural exporters. It is the continent's largest exporter of cut flowers and avocados. However, the Kenyan economy is still largely dependent on airfreight for its horticultural exports. Flying Swans will develop a consolidation centre in Kenya in order to facilitate rail-ship connections for these major flows.

The l aim of the project is to develop the export chain for fresh produce from Vietnam to the Netherlands, through the realisation of cold chain infrastructure in the Mekong Delta as a catalyzing project. The Mekong Delta is connected via its inland waterways to Ho Chi Minh port – the major port of Vietnam and hub for the region. The Mekong River is also an important transport axis for neighbouring countries as Cambodia and Laos which could be potentially other projects within this corridor.

Mozambique's hinterland has high potential in agriculture, tea, coffee, fruit, fish and import of feed/fertilizer. Currently export is done through South Africa and Dar es Salaam creating unsustainable corridors. Unlocking Southeast Africa has major potential for EU and NL.
The port of Beira has no cold storage facilities yet. Dutch focus on exporting (cool) cargo can open the corridor from Zimbabwe and Malawi to the Netherlands (volume up to USD 100 mln. per year).
Flying Swans will work together with local and international partners to establish common-user cold chain facilities and unlock Mozambique's potential for perishables.
